In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, players can register a name into the game under the Multiplayer menu. Names can have up to four characters.

So what's the point in having a name registered? Well, each name registered can have their own personal button configuration, and can edit it to whatever suits them. So having a registered name means you don't have to assign your button configuration everytime you fight. What a timesaver!
